Melodie Provenzano’s ever-expanding exhibition Seeing Oneself in Others brings together sculpture, painting, music, and human connection in a deeply reflective body of work. The original exhibition featured sculptures by Jae Yong Kim, Matthew McCaslin, Shari Mendelson, Michelle Segre, Arthur Simms, and Jeanne Tremel, alongside paintings Provenzano created through direct observation of their work. Music for the exhibition was composed by Diane Cluck. The exhibition opened on February 27, 2020, at Nancy Margolis Gallery.
In 2023, Seeing Oneself in Others II was exhibited at The University School of Nashville, featuring the original paintings alongside new works based on sculptures created by USN students. The students’ sculptures were also displayed, creating a vibrant exhibition celebrating creativity across generations and perspectives. In 2025, Seeing Oneself in Others traveled to Tennessee Valley Museum of Art, across from Ivy Green, the birthplace of Helen Keller.
Provenzano continues to expand this remarkable collection of paintings and drawings honoring contemporary artists from around the world, uniting diverse cultures and artistic expressions into one evolving body of work. Through meticulous observation and extraordinary attention to detail, the exhibition invites viewers to slow down, look closely, and experience the transformative act of seeing oneself reflected in the creativity of others. The traveling exhibition will continue with an upcoming opening in January 2027 at the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
